Quick Solutions to Common Dishwasher Problems

Not sure if you need dishwasher repair service? 
Check the following list of quick solutions to see if there is an easy fix to your dishwasher problems.

My dishwasher is not starting..

  1. First, make sure that you close the dishwasher door all the way, and no dishes or debris are getting caught between the dishwasher door and the edge of the dishwasher.
  2. If you have a dishwasher with top-button controls, you need to make sure that you close the door in less than 3 seconds after pressing the start button.
  3.  Check if the dishwasher is connected to electrical power by checking if the display lights are working. If the dishwasher is not receiving power, make sure the power plug is fully inserted directly into a power outlet. Avoid any extension cords or power strips.
  4. Check if the dishwasher's circuit breaker is tripped in your electrical panel. Reset your circuit breaker for your dishwasher and check if any of the lights on the dishwasher turn on.
  5. If the display lights are working, then make sure the water supply valve is opened all the way. You will typically find the water supply valve for the dishwasher located under the kitchen sink.
  6. Check for any food particles, debris, or small dishes or utensils that may be caught in the bottom of the dishwasher tub and make sure it can move up and down without any interference.

My dishwasher is not draining...

  1. First, check if the drain hose that connects your dishwasher to the garbage disposal and your sinks drain is clogged or kinked. If not, remove any debris or clog in the drain hose.
  2. Try running your garbage disposal for a few seconds and make sure that water is correctly draining through your garbage disposal.
  3. If your garbage disposal was installed after your dishwasher double check that the "knock out plug" is removed when the dishwasher drain hose was connected to the garbage disposal.

My dishwasher is leaking...

  1. First, make sure you closed the door to the dishwasher correctly and that there is no dirt, debris, or dish rag compromising the seal around the dishwasher door.
  2. Make sure the dishwasher is level and on a stable surface that does not move while the dishwasher is running.
  3. Make sure you are not using regular dish soap in your dishwasher, which may cause soapy water to leak during each wash cycle.
  4. Run the dishwasher without any detergent and with the rinse agent on the lowest setting and check if the dishwasher is still leaking. If your dishwasher doesn't leak when running without detergent and minimal rinse agent then you may need to find a different detergent or use less detergent to prevent your dishwasher from leaking.
