3 Things to check if your clothes dryer isn't working

If you find yourself wondering why your clothes are still wet or why your dryer won't turn on...

1. This may seem obvious, but first start by double checking that the dryer is plugged in and that the circuit breaker hasn't been tripped. The breaker should be marked "DRYER" in your home service panel. Shut the dual breaker off completely, then back on again. If the dryer still doesn't turn on, give us a call!

2. If the dryer turns on but doesn't dry your clothes, double check that the internal lint trap is clean and that there are no small items of clothing blocking the lint trap.

3. Next check if there is a kink or blockage of the dryer duct. You may need to remove the dryer duct to clean out any blockage or debris.

Finally go outside and check if hot air is coming out of the external dryer vent and the critter flap is opening completely. If there is no hot air coming out of the dryer vent, give us a call!

For Clothes Dryers

You can usually find an appliance's model number on the model number label which typically contains the make, model number and the serial number.

Check the following areas on your dryer for the model number label.

Inside the dryer door on the cabinet frame.
The back of the dryer control panel near the top.
The side of the dryer cabinet near the front.
Behind the dryer door.

For Washing Machines

For top load washing machines, check the following areas for the model number label.

Under the lid
The top or back of the washing machine control panel
The side of the cabinet near the bottom

For front loading washing machines check the following areas for the model number label.

Behind the door
On the door frame

For Refrigerators

Check the following areas on your refrigerator for the model number label.

The inside ceiling of the refrigerator.
The inside wall of the refrigerator or freezer section.
Inside the door near either the top or bottom of the inside of the door panel.
The inside wall behind the crisper drawer.
Behind the kick plate at front of the refrigerator.
On the frame behind the refrigerator door.

For Microwaves

Check the following areas on your microwave for the model number label.

Along the inside edge around the door.
On the side of the microwave door near the handle.
On the side of the frame to the microwave door near the front control panel.
On the side of the interior of the microwave.
The back panel.

For Dishwashers

Check the following areas on your dishwasher for the model number label.

Inside the door jam on the top, left or right.
On the top of the door.
On the side of the door.
